Smallest of the ecozones, the Mixedwood Plains is nonetheless home to half of Canada's population. Mean July temperatures are 18ºC to 22ºC, while mean daily January temperatures are -3ºC to -12ºC. Precipitation ranges from 720mm to 1000mm. Changeable weather throughout the region is caused by an alternating flow of air masses, such as the warm, humid air from the gulf of mexico and cold, dry air from the arctic. The ecozone iself, is also within the major storm track of North America, prone to having highly changeable weather. In Southwestern Ontario, Agriculture benefits from the moderating effects of the Great Lakes.
